Third Coast Percussion Quartet has undertaken an exciting commissioning project in an effort to expand the repertoire for percussion quartet. Beginning in their 2006 concert season, Third Coast has been working with leading young composers of today to develop a number of new works for their ensemble. The commissioning project is unique in that the ensemble has coordinated instrumentation and setup with the composers to eliminate set changes between pieces and create a seemless concert experience.
The first set of commissions were premiered in May of 2006. These concerts included new pieces by Mark Berger, Andrew Mckenna Lee, and Aaron Travers. Third Coast has since premiered new compositions by Derek Jacoby, Michael Burritt and Marcos Balter. The 2008-09 concert season promises to be the most exciting yet, with premieres of new music by Ted Hearne, Sarah Kirkland Snyder and Matthew Barnson, plus a multi-media work by David T. Little. Check this page for updated information on Third Coast's commissioning projects.
